What is Gaṇeśa Pūjā?

Ganesh pooja is the worship of Lord Ganesha, who is invoked first in almost every Hindu ritual as vighnaharta, the remover of obstacles. The pandit performs sankalp, invites Ganesha into a murti or a kalash, and offers durva grass, modak, flowers and mantras before concluding with aarti.

Families arrange it on its own before a new beginning, such as a business launch, an exam, a journey, a house move or a family function, or on festival days like Ganesh Chaturthi.

When should you perform it?

  • Before starting a business, a new job, a move or a major purchase
  • Before exams, admissions or important interviews
  • On Chaturthi days, especially Sankashti Chaturthi and Ganesh Chaturthi
  • On Wednesdays, which are associated with Ganesha, or before any family function
