What is Vivāha Saṃskāra?

Vivah samskara is the Vedic wedding ceremony, one of the sixteen samskaras, in which two people and their families commit to a shared life before the sacred fire. The core of the ritual is common across India, while its form, language and customs vary widely by region and community.

A full ceremony typically includes Ganesh pooja, the welcome of the groom, kanyadaan, vivaha homa, panigrahana, the seven steps (saptapadi), and the blessing of the couple. Because the segments, mantras and timings differ so much, vivah on SanskarSetu is quoted individually after we understand your family's tradition.

When should you perform it?

  • On a wedding date fixed through kundali matching and a muhurat chosen from the panchang
  • At the venue, whether a home, a hall or a destination, with the timing built around the main muhurat
  • For pre-wedding rites such as ganesh sthapana, haldi and mehndi blessings, which the pandit can conduct separately if you wish
  • Early planning helps: auspicious dates fill quickly, especially in the main wedding season

What is included

  • Muhurat alignment for the wedding rites and the pheras
  • Pandit coordination across the segments you choose
  • Explanation of each step to the couple and families in Hindi or English
  • A pandit matched to your tradition and language
  • Muhurat guidance for the right date and time
  • A dedicated contact from confirmation to the day itself

  • Names of the key participants for each ritual, such as the person performing kanyadaan
  • A clear list of which pre-wedding and post-wedding rites you want conducted

Your pandit

Every pandit on SanskarSetu is vetted before joining. Once you book, we match one to your family's tradition and share their details with you.

  • Background and training checked before joining the platform
  • Matched to your region, sampradaya and language
  • Assigned within 24 hours of your booking
  • Arrives with the vidhi prepared and explains each step as it is performed

Mantras are recited in Sanskrit and explained in Hindi or English as you prefer. If your family follows a regional tradition, tell us when you book and we match a pandit who knows it, subject to availability.
